Frequently Asked Questions
Do you use drugs or tablets at all?
No. Hypnotherapy does not use drugs or tablets of any kind. It is a completely natural and safe process that works through relaxation and focused suggestion.
Will I be aware of what is going on during the treatment?
You will feel very relaxed, and many people later say that they never actually went under. You will always feel that you are able to move or get up, but it is such a pleasant feeling that you will not want to until the end of the session. Most people remember what is said between themselves and the therapist, although you may not remember every word unless prompted for recall.
Can anybody be hypnotised?
Yes, everyone can be hypnotised to some degree. The only exception is someone who is mentally handicapped. Prescription drugs or excessive alcohol can also hinder or prevent hypnosis.
Can I be made to do something against my will?
No, absolutely not. You cannot be made to do anything that you would not normally do according to your morals or sense of self-preservation. If anyone suggested something that conflicted with your morals, you would immediately leave the hypnotic state. There is no question of being controlled or manipulated during hypnosis.
Am I asleep?
No. It may look as if you are asleep, but you are simply very relaxed. It feels a little like daydreaming with your eyes closed. A very deep trance called somnambulistic is close to sleep, but it is rare and not necessary in the consulting room. A light relaxed hypnotic state is all that is needed for effective treatment.
How many visits will I need?
Smoking cessation, nail biting and exam nerves usually need only one session. More deep-rooted nervous disorders may require analytical rather than suggestion therapy, which usually consists of between eight and twelve sessions.
How much does the treatment cost?
Suggestion therapy costs £95 per session and usually only one session is required. Analytical therapy costs £65 per session and often between eight and twelve sessions are necessary. Smoking cessation takes only one session and costs £195.
I cannot seem to lose weight. Can hypnotherapy help me?
Certainly. Combined with a good diet and lifestyle, hypnotherapy can give you the motivation and focus you need to begin your slimming journey. You can read more about this on the Weight Management and Eating Habits page.
I have tried to give up smoking many times before. Why is hypnotherapy different?
Hypnotherapy has an excellent success rate for smoking cessation because it helps you change behavioural patterns rather than simply fighting cravings. You can learn more about the process on the Stop Smoking and Vaping Hypnotherapy page.
Can normal people be psychoanalysed?
Yes. You do not need to show any physical or mental symptoms to want to understand yourself more deeply. As a tool for self-insight, analytical therapy has no equal.
