It might well surprise you to learn that Hypnosis is a totally natural rather pleasant and  completely harmless state of your mind. Certainly it’s a place that you will naturally experience daily.  Surely you will remember the many times that either yourself or someone else has claimed that you have been “in your own little world” or distracted by something momentarily or simply daydreaming?  Think of the many times that you’ve  done something automatically while at exactly the same thinking about something else completely … for example driving, cooking, running or walking, playing a musical instrument and even having a conversation.  Essentially these would have been experiences of a natural hypnotic trance.

TV and Stage do us no favours in this regard – however entertaining these programmes truly are!!
Let’s take the example of  stage hypnosis. So, the “hypnotist” will have a talent for identifying people who are already very suggestible even without any hypnosis!  Think about it, if someone eagerly puts their hand up and volunteers at a stage show they must already be up for the fun of it mustn’t they? and so too be prepared to “act” and pretty much can’t wait to be up on stage and performing! We all know who these  character types are amongst our family and friends  -indeed you might well count yourself amongst them!
It stands to reason doesn’t it that it would be in the Hypnotists interest to keep only these few character types on stage out of all the rest of the audience.

The truth is, in hypnosis you are fully in control at all times and will only do or say things that you choose or agree to do or say.

Hypnosis must be one of the most misunderstood phenomena today. But a trance is a natural state that we all drift in and out of several times a day, indeed  there is no mystery, magic or control.

Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation with a heightened state of awareness which is induced either by a hypnotist or the person themselves.

This state of mind, to the onlooker, resembles sleep, which is in fact how it got it’s name from the Greek ‘hypnos’ (to sleep), but far from being asleep, the person experiencing hypnosis may feel in a state of heightened awareness, in which they still have overall control of their own mind whilst, at the same time, being more open to suggestion that may be given by the hypnotist.

It is not possible that you could be made to do anything that you did not want to do, and you would not blurt out any of your secrets.

The person in hypnosis may experience their senses more, and their memory may well be enhanced.

The state of hypnosis is a most pleasant and relaxing natural phenomenon, during which a person can talk quite easily. It is inconceivable that any harm could befall you.

Hypnosis is being used increasingly as an adjunct to orthodox medicine where it is providing a valuable alternative to drugs and anaesthesia to accelerate the healing process, and to relieve and help with pain. A good definition of hypnosis is a state of relaxation and concentration at one with a state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion.
